Countdown on for Joe's Annapurna departure!

The countdown is finally on in a big way for Joe, his Dad Chris & the Bonington Treks team heading to Annapurna to celebrate Chris’ first ascent of Annapurna II (7937 metres) in 1960, it is also the 40th Anniversary of the first ascent of the South Face of Annapurna by Dougal Haston and Don Whillans on an expedition led by Chris.
But most significantly the 60th Anniversary of Maurice Herzog’s epic adventure & conquest of Annapurna.  This is going to be a tough and strenuous trek that they are all very excited about and having been working hard on their fitness to keep up with 75 year old Chris!!!Meeting in Kathmandu on May 5th, departures are imminent!
The trip includes a lecture in Kathmandu by Chris, celebratory dinners with local dignitaries and members of the original expeditions, 20 days trekking including a high pass crossing at 5560m and reveling in the spectacular views the Annapurna region is renown for.
This will be a nostalgic journey for Chris and we know he will enjoy sharing with the team his memories and the many changes that have taken place over those years.
Look out for an update from Joe & Chris in the next Newsletter and keep an eye on our Blog, Facebook & Twitter for regular updates throughout the trip.  We can guarantee there will be plenty of stories to share from their adventure!!

Hi Krys, having recently returned from my first amazing trek in Nepal (Everest Base Camp), I can completely empathise with your anxiety around fitness, altitude etc. I was exactly the same, right up until we started walking!!
Having trained with Joe’s TrekFit group before leaving I can assure you that Joe is an amazing leader and will have your back the entire trip. No-one, not even the fittest of fit, can predict how their body & fitness will hold up at altitude so you’ve got to trust your body, listen to what it tells you along the way and be ready to be blown away by what you can achieve!!
I’m insanely envious of you guys – you’re going to have a blast!! Enjoy every moment.
