20 Apr The Road to Everest (The Adventures of Jaco Ottink Pt II)
Part 2 of our series of updates from Jaco Ottink and his wife Daan as he attempts to climb Everest via the south col.
4th April 2016
Here another quick update about Jaco’s adventure. Last time I wrote to you he was staying in Monjo (see the yellow dots in the map below) and from there they walked to Namche Bazar. They arrived here early in the morning and had 1.5 day there to explore the place and acclimatize. In Namche he had the first views on Everest!
After that, they continued to Khumjung, where they stayed for 2 nights
with legend Phurba Tashi, a Nepalese Sherpa who has been on Everest 21 times and features in the new movie “Sherpa”. Phurba is the altitude Sherpa for Jaco’s group as well. They attended a special ceremony with 16 Buddhists and received blessed scarves and necklaces (see attached). He also had a great view on Ama Dablam, supposedly the most beautiful mountain in the world (attached)!
Today they arrived in Pheriche. Yesterday he had some headaches but after Panadol he was fine again.
So far the quick update again. Will keep you updated.
