As we reported last month, Joe and many other local trainers have been at logger heads with Warringah Council regarding their draft policy for the "Use of Open Space by Commercial Fitness Groups and Personal Trainers".  Today we received an important notification from Warringah Council of the next public council meeting where this proposal will be discussed.  Please read on to see how you can support us at this meeting and to read Councils response to date.
Wow, it's been almost 3 weeks since Joe left for Nepal to meet up with his Dad, Chris and the other Bonington Treks team members heading off to trek the Annapurna region. Joe may be in the middle of the Himalayas but don't think that's stopped him being in regular 'text' contact with us here at the Joe Bonington office providing some great updates (and not to mention some cheeky ones!) of the teams adventures - the wonders of technology!!!
New research published this month in the Australian New Zealand Journal of Health has confirmed that obesity has overtaken tobacco as the leading preventable cause of disease in Australia. New figures from Western Australia(1), which are expected to reflect across Australia, show the contribution of excessive weight to ill health has more than doubled in just six years.
As seen in this mornings article in the Manly Daily, Joe is at loggerheads with Warringah council. Warringah Council has released their “Policy for the Use of Council Open Space by Commercial Fitness Groups and Personal Trainers”.
The countdown is finally on in a big way for Joe, his Dad Chris & the Bonington Treks team heading to Annapurna to celebrate Chris’ first ascent of Annapurna II (7937 metres) in 1960, it is also the 40th Anniversary of the first ascent of the South Face of Annapurna by Dougal Haston and Don Whillans on an expedition led by Chris. But most significantly the 60th Anniversary of Maurice Herzog's epic adventure & conquest of Annapurna.  This is going to be a tough and strenuous trek that they are all very excited about and having been working hard on their fitness to keep up with 75 year old Chris!!!

Those of you that know Joe have probably seen him walking around with a bottle of what looks alarmingly like frog spawn... infact he has wound up several unsuspecting clients that he is infact drinking Frog Spawn collected from Manly Dam. Well it's time to let his secret out, the contents of his bottle are soaked Chia Seeds. Chia Seeds are a complete superfood grown naturally, right here in Australia!! These versatile black and white seeds are the highest known plant source of Omega-3, that’s 8 times more than salmon!

Our current group on the 10 week TrekFit fitness program took a day trip out of Sydney last Saturday and enjoyed a 5 hour walk from Cowan to Brooklyn.  A great day was had by all, culminating with a good old fashioned pub lunch and schooner at the Brooklyn Pub. Cheers!  A big thank you to Ian McCulloch for the following photo's.
